Hurray for me, I got my first response from a “real” person. Unfortunately they seem to have set loose their spam kill-bots, because I am not allowed to email them a response. My last hope of replying to them is to write a response here in the small chance that they will return to my site and see it.
So here is the email I received. The name may or may not be changed to protect the innocent.
Hi there, I discovered your Snowflake script and I found your programming really clean and well written. I was wondering if I could borrow that script, with your permission for my site.
Thanks
Derek
This email made my day. The whole purpose behind the tutorials I’ve posted is to help people do cool stuff. Almost everything I know about web development can be attributed to free online tutorials. I wanted to return a bit of that knowledge back to the community. Knowing that there is at least one person out there benefiting from my meager contributions is a great feeling. Someone actually took the time to thank me and asked my permission to use a script!
What do you think of my new slogan: Helping people do cool stuff!?
So here is my answer. Of course you can use the script! Unless specifically marked otherwise, all the files linked to in the tutorials are freely available to use. All I ask for in return is a little attribution, preferably in the form of some link-love. As long as I don’t get burned by some jerk, I intend to continue making things like this freely available.
For now I am officially publishing these files under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 2.5 License. That may change in the future as I learn more about the available licenses and all of that fun legal stuff. I’m sure I’ll have to tack some disclaimer on stating that I cannot be held liable in the case that any of these files melts your computer and/or brain-washes your dog.
If you really like something you find on this site and want to make my day, send me an email! I love to hear from real people. Please try to keep your spam kill-bots under control when you do. Otherwise I’ll get a message like this when I try to reply.
PERM_FAILURE: SMTP Error (state 9): 550 Requested action not taken: mailbox unavailable
If you are reading this Derek, feel free to use the script and thanks for making my day!
